Why is materialism bad?

Out of curiosity why is it really viewed as bad? Do we not suppose to like things or pretend we don't in fear of people criticizing what we do with ONES money in which ONE made...... A dude I know have me a perfect explanation, why even make money if you not going to do what you want with it? What the point of making money and being miserable because you scared to live the life you want?

Obviously there comes a level at which one doesn't have to worry about such things

Depends on how you look into it. People look for certain styles and certain brands meet those styles... depends on how you want to be portrayed......And as for the Previous topic no one have anything against being "financially responsible" so why worry about vice versus

People way smarter and wealthier (since we're speaking on materialism) than you and me have written endless literature that are hundreds of pages long detailing the pitfalls of materialism very clearly articulating their arguments better than you or I will likely ever be able to do ourselves? Honestly, if you can't be convinced by reading conclusive research, I don't think you and all of your bachelors degree from midsize state U and your 5 years work experience at 40k a year is going to change your mind. Best to stick with shallow sloganeering and sound bites that could fit on a bumper sticker rather than any real nuanced deconstruction of materialism.
