Been looking for a new job and I miss the days of having interviews lined up and getting an offer in a week or two. Now it’s a 2-3 month process and you end up losing out at the end
some of the hoops you gotta jump through too

when i was hunting, some places made me take some test on indeed + phone screen + 2nd phone screen + vid interview + in person, all for nothing

Anybody in here work in management or in processes + operations? That’s where I can see myself too
Yeah I just reworked my resume few days ago as well.

Hoping I get this journalism spot at a national broadcast news station. Really want that shyt.

Idk man somehow someway the lord always come through so I’m just staying ready when the time come.

Coli keep me laughing
Anything right now bruh. In the south so it’s mainly manufacturing or vending type shyt.

I got a shytload of experience/skill in tech/design/culinary. Just not certified or having documented paperwork to back me up exactly.

Some jobs I apply for I see why I’m not getting response but then it’s other shyt like manufacturing where I’m experienced as well and they just shoot the “moving on with other candidates” email.

Dude I know has none of the experience nor education I have and he got a phone interview at least lol happy for him since we came from same job but I’m looking at other side of coin like how the fukk did I not get anything but I’m rolling on man keeping my spirit up.
don't take this wrong way at all and i'm gonna be plain

you gotta pick a lane or core professional foundation. and when you're in it, learn to speak the language so that others in that field can immediately recognize you as part of the community of practice. i can't emphasize 'speaking the language' enough either. its not "talking white" or being overly wordy, its fluently speaking on the challenges, successes, and your own growth within a certain field. it makes you immediately relatable to anyone in that field. its critical. and when you don't have the ability to speak that way, you're an outsider. *nobody told me this* but now its always in my back pocket.

very possible im reading too much into stuff but when people are all over the place like this its too easy to identify and eliminate folks. it sounds really, really small but i promise its a louder factor than many realize...

Man tell me about it and god forbid they ask for an assessment. Kind of off topic but I wish there would be a George Floyd type of March/strike in every city against these jobs , rent , etc

preach. and they're not gonna train you up on new shyt either so when a recompete comes around you're probably cooked without even knowing why
Even with a clearance I saw people getting laid off with barely any notice. If the contract switches hands on a Friday. You might not get asked to show up that following Monday. Especially if a Government worker has it out for you.
:mjlol:
I got reported to the Union by Government workers more times than I can count. The absolute worst part is dealing with psychotic Federal employees. These cats ain't wrapped too tight. Talk about inflated egos.

The most disrespectful shyt is that pre recorded interview, where you answer questions in front of a camera.

NSA sent me that shyt, I read the first question and quit. Told the NSA if I can’t get a human do not consider me for any roles.

i fukking hated doing that for a few jobs

it wasn't pre recoreded but they had a question prompt and wanted a video recording answer. Did like one of those and never heard back, never did another one...shyt is really bullshyt. If they can't vbe bothered to even try to interview you, fukk you and your company

Best advice I can give you hear is maintain whatever clearances you have and go down that path.

Plenty of work in ATL and Reston, VA in the tech space For folks with clearances or who can get/maintain them.

Both MS and Amazon have a large footprint there and if you can't get on directly you could always try and get your foot in the door as an Escort.
Thanks for the advice

Writing/creative content and computers are my passion so to say.

Culinary I just happen to be good at. Passionate about it but not for work exactly. Not in a be the cook type of way.

I wanna be behind the scenes, having input on/oversee the process. Making sure we producing the best product if that makes sense.

I'm at the point to where it's like fuk these companies for playing games and starting my own business

Copywriter/Marketing/eLearning for any XaaS a service company, check out TrueUp, Wellfound, or Otta. Sales enablement is hot right now so a writer with creative content experience could be a good lane for you breh. Just learn one of those easy ass adult learning models like Addie and you’ll definitely make it past any phone screen.

Protip: Start a website showcasing your skills like a blog or writing pieces on industry trends. I’m doing that now to show off my data skills.

Market is rough but this is also that time of year companies start freezing everything until the new year.
yep

I was just telling a friend that when it comes to contracting in general or gov-dependent jobs, ain't shyt getting done between Halloween and Valentine's Day generally.

If you're not hired and in the seat by Thanksgiving, get your mind right and look at seasonal job to hold you over :francis:
