Don't know about anybody else, but I fukk with the music since Hip Hop began till now.
In terms of being trapped I think some are, because they aren't open to listening to shyt they didn't grow up on as kids. For somebody that truly loves Hip Hop there's so many artists and so much music to listen to that's dope, it's an overload infact, it's just sometimes they may miss cause they a little isolated, if you're in or around Hip Hop regularly you KNOW there's dope artists and music coming out regularly.

I think people are running out of quality topics to make about newer artists because it just turns into a troll fest for the most part.
At least with older music people will some what talk about it first and stan second. When you see people talk about the mid 2000s you don't have to worry about Lil Jon stans fighting Jazzy Pha stans in comments.
