They have definitely been cracking down. I get my stuff through usesnet but prefer better copy so those 689mb files are not cutting it for me. For the longest time, usenet was almost untouched by the studios/powers that be. Now they are taking down the networks and they just crop up again like weeds. Except these weeds are hard to find and die quickly.
The movies are definitely out there though.
I had my first non screener perfect digital copy - The Hitman's Bodyguard - the week it came out in theaters. If they can get something out that fast I have no doubt the screeners are still out there.
The studios are just super busy taking down the binaries online so some have started going the cyberlocker route (rapidgator.net or say uploadgig.com) But eventually those go down too.
When they do hit you had better be in the first 2-4 hours or it is gone. which sucks for me as I only have time on the weekends.
This leads me to believe that there are groups with pristine screeners who are sharing on a very exclusive level.
Oh to be in that number
Of course by the time we care about the Oscars most of the movies have already hit DVD/Bluray.
The only screeners I am looking for at this time are Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, and The Florida Project.
My best advice would be to join - pay? - a site which has many members who are interested. Once something comes out somebody will get it and once they do you would just request access to a copy.
I wish I had more time but these days work is taking over my life.
