I dont know why bro, but people like SRL so it's no hate, he invented the blueprint, for Oscar, and Floyd to a lesser degree than those, but even Oscar and Floyd got that backlash, never nothing for SRL, his antics, his ducking, drug use, questionable sexuality and all......

Floyd got harshly criticized for trying to pull a SRL vs Baldamir, SRL was the original teflon don............

He used to be one of my fav's but I resent how he is loved, and no one ever throws shade at him, Like I said I much rather have seen a Hearns 30 for 30 so Leanard could get some flack for once, not it being a ass kissing fest...........

What Leonard did outside the ring is his business honestly. Just like with Floyd's tax issues and beating women like a Pimp who didn't get his payout, that's on him at the end of the day. But as a fighter, Leonard in the late 70s early 80s was criticized too and even beating Benitez wasn't the biggest win for him though he was a tough fight for anyone. If you look at his resume in the span of just 4 years he faced Benitez, Duran twice, and Tommy Hearns...in their primes. That alone to me says a lot for a Prime Leonard. His eye got f*cked after the Hearns fight, had one comeback, came back 3 yrs later and didn't take a tune up and went straight to Middleweight to fight Hagler.

I can't think of a fighter today that has done either or in comparison.

i don't have a problem with anything else you said, but leonard ducking pryor was complete nonsense and nikkka still ride with it to this day.

Fighting and beating a virtually unknown Pryor probably wouldn’t have done much for Leonard’s career. This was a high risk/low reward type fight. Leonard would go on to bigger and better things while exceeding the purses of heavyweights. For Pryor, it meant a lot more. It meant fame and fortune, and probably TV contracts.

When the fight presented itself to Pryor, he was originally offered 500,000 bucks. It was later changed to 750,000. Pryor felt that wasn’t enough money and stated in his post fight interview against Lennox Blackmore that Leonard probably stood to make 4 million for the fight. From one perspective Pryor was missing out on a grand opportunity. The money might not have been to his liking. Had he won, it would have probably catapulted him into overdrive as far as big fights and purses were concerned.

Then again, he probably would have continued to be the most avoided by other fighters. Pryor believed he was worth more than 500,000 dollars. At the same time, he could not sell tickets outside of his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. So from that perspective, it was a setback.

The deal was later changed to 750,000 dollars. But Leonard suffered a detached retina in his fight with Roger Stafford in Buffalo New York in 1982. Six months later, he retired. Pryor’s stance on the money issue seemed to be justified. In his fight with Alexis Arguello, he made a then career purse of 1.6 million dollars. In the rematch, he made 2.25 million.

even without the article, i find it amusing people say leonard ducked pryor to later on move up and fight hearns, hagler benitez and duran.
