Why does it seem like the wwe can't get over this attitude era hangover?

Honestly for once it seems like they ARE moving past it, it’s just that they’ve been beating Attitude to a pulp for so long they don’t know anything else. You don’t remember them making the (totally history revised) Ruthless Aggression documentary :lolbron:?? Suddenly Evolution is a legendary stable instead of HHH’s Four Horsemen cosplay

the grunge / gangsta rap 90’s were just made to click with the anti-heroes and anti-establishment shyt that the attitude era was about

a modern day wrestling show would have to identify what the current culture is all about and use that... idk what the world is about now tho

it might not be about shyt

Its like this OP..

Remember a time where you was balling out of control. I'm talking about everything went your way:

  • Women fell to your graces
  • You were the most popular dude in whatever
  • Money piling up
  • etc
Now imagine that time being gone and you just either going with the flow or living a good life, but not so much like that time where everything clicked. This is where the WWE is at this very moment. They living in the mid to late 90s and refuse to move from the past because that's was their exact peaked. They could had capitalize on that peak during the Summer of Punk, but guess what, it's not the same as having big names and folks striving for your content lke during that exact time.

Yes, the shyt is annoying because the Attitude Era aged like a stale wet fart, but overall there's no denying that the WWE will never EVER meet towards that status again.

I mean look at how Vince is still stuck in the 80's, trying to push muscular total babyfaces against big ugly monsters that he builds up thru squash matches :yeshrug:

Yeah it's wild....at this point that stuff is 20, soon to be 25 years old. I try to put myself in the shoes of a young fan today, comparing to back when I was watching the attitude era in the late 90s. That'd be the equivalent of them pushing nothing but early 70s wrestlers and content, low key acting like those were the best days they ever had.

That would've seemed so bizarre to me. Even clips from the 80s felt like the dinosaur era back then....but suddenly modern fans are supposed to worship and care about a product from 2 decades ago.

It's sad. Really is like the high school football star who peaked early.

It seems like every sitcom and Netflix series has adapted to current times, but the WWE hasn’t. Honestly, there’s simply so much sterilization, safeness, and mediocrity, it’s hard to garner interest. But every other outlet manages to provide something intriguing. The WWE has 1 intriguing story with Jey/Reigns, and that’s it. Sasha/Bayley is notable, but they’ve been legit feuding for 5 years.

Shoulda been building up them mid/late 2000s cats like Carlito, Umaga, Elijah Burke etc better. After RA they stopped giving a fukk about the roster head to toe fans had no interest in these stars unlike AE when they got to express them and connect with fans (given opportunities).

Not developing more stars made them rely on past AE folks so much to the point no one gives a fukk anymore

Don’t get me wrong a lot of trash came during 2000s too but too many wrestlers were given bullshyt unless you were Brock, HHH, Taker, Cena, Orton, Batista or Edge

The only difference is the quality. Attitude era they was legit whipping ass.... or at least the style they wrestled it looked like they were... now wrestling looks more like rehearsed performance art (even when they aren't doing floppy shyt)

The Rock and Stone Cold personas are iconic.... nobody from this era has that type of juice...

because their main buyer base consists of people who got into the WWF in the late '90s and have a brand loyalty to the WWF, while also clinging to their childhoods.

that and the fact that the rock & austin were their last real box office draws.

the attitude era itself really wasnt all that until the last year or so.:yeshrug:
