I keep seeing in all these threads, "Oh, _____ went platinum five times, so he's the GOAT," and "______ sucks, he couldn't even go gold," and "______ went platinum once but ______ went gold twice!"

The question I have is for you is...who f-cking cares?

The highest rated TV shows aren't the best TV shows.
The highest grossing movies aren't the best movies.
The highest selling books aren't the best books.
And the highest selling rap albums aren't the best rap albums.

Actually, what sells the most is often crap. The highest rated TV shows are sh-tty reality shows and laugh track sitcoms. The highest grossing movies are CGI animal toy commercials. The highest selling books are Twilight fan fiction, political hackjobs and celebrity memoirs. And the highest selling rap albums are whatever's singles get 16-year-olds to dance at Homecoming.

Yeah, there are exceptions. Sometimes a really great TV show, book, movie or rap album catches on with the masses. But it's the exception that proves the rule. High sales don't mean art is bad....or good.

And this isn't anything new. Van Gogh didn't sell sh-t. dikkens was always broke which is why he wrote A Christmas Story purely for the money. A lot of the most popular poetry (and fiction) in the 18th / 19th centuries was sentimental crap people forgot about in a generation. The relationship between art and commerce has never been related to quality.

So, why exactly do you are about this stupid sh-t so much? Are you on your favorite artist's payroll? Tracking the sales of your favorite artists, whipping them out in every thread like they prove something...what is the point? They don't mean anything. Actually, if you can pull the sales of X rap album off the top of your head, it's pretty sad. You could fill your brain with information worth knowing.

I never got this either. Its like on some following sh*t the only way people can tell whos the most popular so they can know who to listen to.But that shouldn't determine a individual's opinion.Alot of artists that sell alot is because they have fans that like them for who they are and not just their music so they are going to buy and support their music not matter how hot or wack it is.If you are going to talk about music talk about music f*ck all this sh*t about sales and n*ggas personal life and situations just discuss the music all that other sh*t is gossip/groupie sh*t.If a n*gga got a banging album who gives a f*ck about how many units he sold besides the record labels that's trying to recoup their money back
