Some people just want to be right. They want to walk away and feel like what they said won them the battle. Sometimes these people may know they are in the wrong and argue anyway knowing that their gifts with words will make them sound right despite being wrong. This is pride.

it's also because we live in the world of "this is my opinion, you have to respect people's opinions"

This is why I never impose my views on people. I can't force someone to be right.

Common sense is an lost art. Also, either you have it or you don't. Some people just don't have it, but it's not their fault, nikkas ain't trying to be stupid

this is true. if you really think about it and examine it, we're fostered into believing and expressing our opinions. i remember once i was having a discussion with someone about the differences in american education compared to european education at the college level. she told me (which i agree with) that students here are encouraged to express themselves more rather than to actually state the actual proven answers. it's thought that the answers will reveal themselves to you and it will mean more if we express ourselves and internalize it. however, a severe problem with that is that it can also encourage laziness and people end up missing the point of certain things because they're operating off of their own belief system and little information simply because they know that what's expected of them. they're not expected to know the material completely, just to have a vague idea of it.

don't get me wrong, there are draw backs to each system, but the best thing to do is to fully understand common things and common knowledge then form your opinion. our system could work if people continually pushed to educate themselves but most people don't after a certain point. plus, education is viewed as a means to an end, not the end...

They just need to drop "common" from the term cause it sure isnt anymore. And I'm sorry, but its the persons own fault that they're walking around stupid as fukk. I find that as i'm getting older, I have less and less patience for those that don't use/have common sense.

There's no such thing as common sense because we are not common. People from different socioeconomic backgrounds think differently, people from different religions think differently, people from different neighborhoods think differently, people with different education backgrounds think differently, even genders think differently at times... so what exactly is common about us?

Straw man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

People are more egotistical and narcissistic than ever these days. This meaning that they have little to no self accountability, think they should be exempt from criticism, and never want to admit when they're wrong.

This is also why many people will pretty much argue until they get the last word, especially when they know they're wrong.

it's also because we live in the world of "this is my opinion, you have to respect people's opinions"
...and people definitely have that all twisted. You are to respect people's right to have their own opinion, but you don't have to respect the opinion itself. People tend to use this mentality to also say ignorant, offensive shyt, and regardless of the fact that we have our right to have opinions, there are still things you simply keep to yourself in regards to offending others. Your right to an opinion won't prevent someone offended from punching you in the jaw over something you said. Society needs to learn something called "tact".

Because everybody seems to make decisions based on how they feel rather than objective logic. When you never take the time to think past how you feel, you do dumb sh*t.

If common sense were actually common, it'd just be called sense, not common sense.:ld:

Alot of people use the fact that we're entitled to opinions to perpetuate the most outlandish and baseless of opinions known to man. You neither have to like, respect, tolerate or honor it.. u can prove it baseless under scrutiny if you so chose. Just dont go over the line of insulting the messenger instead of the message.

If people actually used common sense as much as they should, they wouldn't have half the problems they do
so in essence most people really never had any common sense
