Why do people attempt to be heros and try to save someone from committing suicide?

But they don't need help. That's the thing. The "hero" and their distorted view of someone who needs help is the problem.
You don't know that. And even if you knew that, the person who attempts to help doesn't know that.

But whatever; you asked why they attempted to provide help and said you didn't understand the reason. I just wanted to answer your question :yeshrug:

When I was like about 3 or 4 years old I was on the beach near a rocky coastline and there's a certain time of year where Banded killifish will jump out of the water en masse to kill themselves at that age I was seeing this and I didn't to save any of them individually as much as I wanted to have an impact on the future population of the species, so I tossed them back in the water

Well if they're jumping off a bridge, depending on where it is it's possible they could land on an innocent bystander and kill them as well, or somehow survive but critically injure others as well as cause mental trauma to those that witness it. So keeping them from doing it would have alleviated those possibilities.

Also not suicide but like 8 years ago I talked somebody out of shooting up a crowded area in downtown Cleveland, breh was carrying his pistol in his hand while his girl was trying to stop him from airing out the street, he was either gonna get lit up by police or hit a bunch of random people trying to get his target. I was telling breh it wasn't worth it and the police was all over the place and just square up if he tryna get at somebody, he agreed and give his girl the gun then went about his business, there were probably 200 people out at the time and breh was unhinged.

I don't understand why some suicides have to be public or even announced. Jumping off a bridge where people have no choice but to stop and watch/intervene? Why? For attention. Folks that really want to kill themselves and respect others in the process do so behind closed doors with a note for the family. All this jumping into trains and jumping off bridges is attention-seeking behavior for folks looking for some sign or hero. Don't want to be saved? Commit that on your own time outside of public view.

In the words of Martin Lawrence:

You had all day to kill yourself, why wait til I get home? :martin:

I only mentioned jumping off a bridge as an example but it could be any type of suicide looking situation.

But in regards to jumping off a bridge, the observer could always just make sure nobody is around so nobody else is hurt while the person jumps. That's the best way to help.

"Alright, coast is clear. No innocent bystanders is around. I wish you the best in the afterlife"
