Why do hoodrats have such high self esteem?

Just got through reading over this thread about ratchets and i noticed that hoodrats tend to think that they're god's gift.

I knew a girl who looked exactly like Flavor Flav yet she said that she looks better than Kim Kardashain.

I'm just curious as to where they gain all of this confidence from.

Being dumb makes them impervious to criticism. Dumb people in general are a lot more confident because they don't have the mental capacity to be self-aware on that level.

Most of the time it's a front, a shield used to hide the fact that they're hurting or feel deprived emotionally, physically, and mentally.

This goes further than just hoodrats. It's the result of a generation raised to "believe in themselves" no matter what, without putting in a single day of work in their entire life. Many of us were conditioned to have high self-esteem even if nothing was done to earn it, and this is the result.
