damn... powerful postingAnyone else notice how distinctly Christians speak His name? Not too soft but not too aggressive, with a tinge of an almost arrogant confidence, enunciating each syllable completely, you can feel the hopeful joy in their voices. Strange.. there's nothing else like it.
But to answer the thread's question, like anything cultural it's inherited. If belief/love in Jesus was an instinctual trait of human beings there wouldn't be much to debate. Like millions throughout history our ancestors were given the choice: Bend to the will of Christ or Die. This is the most common mode of "free will" offered by the Church, pretty much from the start and the only taste of free will American Slaves tasted. Honestly, though, is it really surprising that slaves would identify with a religion rooted in the notion that humans are inherently wretched & broken creatures, doomed to suffer in both finite and infinite existences without devoting every fiber of their being to Jesus Christ? Our Salvation. The only beacon hope our bumbling & lost species has.
When you're enslaved, beaten, raped, demeaned, kept ignorant and hope is in minimal supply, naturally, you take it where you can get it...no matter how insidious the source or the circumstances. Stockholm syndrome on a grand scale...
A mythological fictional being?Jesus was Black. That's why.
What other person would help heal sick people, empower poor people, and get killed for standing up for what he believes in?
