This makes no sense to me. It looks very stupid.

Shouldn't you wear your teams dominate color at home?

Ive always thought the same thing. Would make more sense for the home team to rep their colors

I know in baseball, it started off that way because away teams had trouble coordinating the laundry while traveling

I dunno but I found this on wikipedia sounds about right:

History

Legend has it that the "home white" tradition goes back to the year 2003. Carmelo Anthony, of Syracuse University fame, was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. Draft analysts at the NBA combine noted his buttocks was of abnormal girth, width, and density. To maximize the aesthetic appeal of his rear end, Nuggets General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe suggested the Nuggets play all of their home games in white jerseys to show off Melo's phatty. "It'll crush their morale," Vandeweghe said. "There's no way they could stay focused on the game with that type of thickness in front of them." Despite struggles, teams in other sports across the country noticed how good Melo looked in his jersey, and a new, groundbreaking tradition was born.
