Why do basketball teams wear white Jerseys at Home?

Ive always thought the same thing. Would make more sense for the home team to rep their colors

I know in baseball, it started off that way because away teams had trouble coordinating the laundry while traveling

Legend has it that the "home white" tradition goes back to the year 2003. Carmelo Anthony, of Syracuse University fame, was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.
