Why can't people understand that it takes years for a President's proposals to come into effect?

It's the most maddening thing about politics :mindblown:

I know I can't be the only one reading these news articles.

When you read "this economic policy will expire in 2024, this proposal will kick in in 2022 or these tax cuts will expire in 3 years and increase taxes on so and so" they're not just saying that sh*t for fun and games. This is short hand for "you spent money on your credit card and the bill will be due at this time". This is how a President's economic platform can still affect you YEARS AFTERWARD but, people can't grasp this :mindblown: People can understand NBA & NFL salary caps. Everybody can understand that if you pay $50 million to Jamarcus Russell for 10 years that you fukked your salary cap for a decade yet, people can't seem to understand that a President can destroy an economy for years :mindblown:

Morons want to vote for Trump when 80% of this sh*t is fault. He gonna get in office, cut taxes for the rich, give us a temporary stock market rally and then in 2028, we're gonna be right back to square one :mindblown: YOU CANNOT KEEP CUTTING TAXES OR LOWERING INTEREST RATES TO ZERO. YOU HAVE TO RAISE TAXES ON THE RICH, YOU HAVE TO BALANCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET AND YOU HAVE TO DISTRIBUTE THE EXCESS TOWARDS GROWING THE ECONOMY. It's not rocket science :mindblown:

If you blame Trump, you don't understand the game OP. A president's policy really isn't his policy. Its big businesses policies passed down through their lobbyists. That's why everyone sound the same when it comes to economic issues. Yes the current system is unstable but there has to be a huge fundamental change in Washington to see different results. Also, it only takes years to roll a president's proposals depending on congress. However, there is bullshyt there too because they can pass a spending bill on defense or to Israel in a matter of days.

It depends on what the policy, order or law is. Some can go into effect quicker than others.

But yes, once in effect they can have lasting effects into the next Presidency and beyond. Trump's 2017 tax cuts and change in tax code, where 83% of the benefits went to the upper class and corporations, and led to many people in the middle class getting screwed on tax returns won't expire until 2025.

Lol good post especially the part where the dumbest guy you know can all of a sudden become rain man when discussing the cap hit his favorite football team will take on for the next ten years.

I tried explaining how Trump's OPEC+ deal had a lasting effect after Trump left office to a coworker since it ultimately lead to decreased production over multiple years and that shyt just didn't compute for him. And honestly, that's nothing compared to the Chevron Doctrine getting shyt down because we probably won't really feel that for another decade.

It does seem like horseshyt if you don't know how it works. Do you really believe presidents and politicians sit down and write bills that become laws. It's usually lobbyists, consultants, or the 20 something aids that just finished law school. Usually policies and passed down from big businesses through their lobbyists. Reganomics, Bidenomics, etc. are really someone else's plan.

We're all aware that lobbyists have influence on laws but it's also true that Presidents have their own interests in pushing policy as well.

For instance, Who are the people that are pushing for Trump's 10-20% tariff plan on corporations that do business outside of the US? I believe that to be something Trump conjured up himself but you're suggesting that particular policy is coming from an unnamed lobbyist.

Let me know if I'm reading you wrong.

US Companies who's products we're getting undercut by the Chinese loved those tariffs. Trump talked about them when he first ran for President.

Name the companies. And show that they pushed the policy

And I also wonder if those same companies appreciated the retaliatory tariffs they china ended up laying on them. It's weird to imagine multinational corporations liking barriers to markets

I would put it at well over 90% of people that discuss/argue politics not actually knowing shyt about it. So you get people just parroting talking points they read on whatever biased website they chose, and the bullshyt flows faster and stronger than the genuine discourse, because people are fukking stupid

most people started forming opinions about politics without knowing the process

make civics matter

if voters were required to test to show they understand political process as part of competency the pool would be cut to less than half the regular numbers. but the quality of votes would be far better.

The average American has at best a 2nd grade level understanding of how the government works and all it's branches. Like even in School House Rock in the 70s did a better job explaining this than the post 2000s educational system.

No we don't. As for tariffs, I have no idea. I will say some regulations are meant to eliminate competition. For example, when free range chickens became popular. Rules where changed which decreased the area chicken can be raised which made it unprofitable for smaller famers which benefited the bigger one. There is a lot of chess going on.
