Why are fans so possessive of artists?

No matter what the genre, fans have this "he was mine fisrt" attitude. Why?

The point of being an artist is to make money and you make money with more and more exposure. If it wasn't about that, nikkas would release mixtapes their whole career.

That's really some selfish ass shyt to want to keep artist A within your own circle.
