You're understanding of the issues with Magic is lacking apparently.. Jeanie chose Rob and Luke Walton essentially.
Magic wanted to fire Walton but Jeannie said no. She's the one who always has final say and approval. They made the AD trade simply on Jeannie's approval, there's a whole documentary where Jeannie made a comment that it was all on her shoulders and the decision was hers to make at the end of the day

Dwight was huge for us in 2020. He fukked up the situation with Dwight who ended up signing with Philly.
You don't want to blame him for Westbrook even though he is the one with full authority to make trades. The Buddy Heild trade would have downgraded the roster also. Would have gone down as another bad trade.

She's stated that it was her decision in the end with AD, and the same thing would apply with Russ. She wanted Russ just as much as everyone else, because it means a big 3 which means ticket sales, national TV games, jerseys, etc.
