Who Is Your Favorite Musician Of All Time? (Why? Honorable Mentions Are Welcome)

For me, it would have to be David Robert Jones AKA David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust).

Why? Because his music relates to me. Especially, when he was writing about his depression and mood swings. Some of my favorite albums from him are Lodger, Reality, Earthling, Blackstar, Heathen, Young Americans and Hours.

Honorable Mentions: Bob Marley (loved his activism and passion through his music). I'm just now getting hip to Barrington Levy, Tenor Saw, and Jimi Hendrix.

When i think "musicians" i think of people that actually play instruments. But i'm seeing rappers being named.
Maybe it's me but i consider rappers to be artists but not musicians.
Maybe im reading too much into it
My favs in no particular order would be

• Jacob Devarieux - Lead guitarist for KASSAV'. "nuff said" as they say
  
• Herman Nau - Tabou's former drummer (now retired). Homie was a beast on these drum solos
  
• QuestLove - From the Legendary Roots crew. If you've been to a Roots show you'd know why
  
• Sidi Touré - Malien artist. I was blessed to see this man and his crew perform live. I had heard of him before from a few african friends. But then again saw him live and the shyt was ...surreal

I thought this was an odd question to ask on a forum like TheColi, 'cause not a lot of people have favorite MUSICIANS. I do, but this would be better asked on a musician's forum.

Now that I see what you mean by musician, I guess I would have to say D'angelo. He plays and is an artist as well. I love gut-bucket soul.
