"Hast thou not
Turned thy vision to the Chiefs
Of The Children Of Israel
After(the time of) Moses
They said to a Prophet
(That was) among them:
"Appoint for us a King, That we
May Fight in the cause of Allah
he said: Is it not possible,
If ye were commanded
To fight,that that ye
Will not fight?" They said:
"How could we refuse
To fight in the cause of Allah.
Seeing that we were turned out
Of our homes and our families?"
But when they were commanded
To fight, they turned back.
Except a small band
Among Them. But Allah
Has full Knowledge of those
Who do wrong.

Saul, David and Goliath (Tālūt طالوت, Dāwūd داود and جالوت Galut)

The story appears in 1 Samuel 8-12 and 17:1-58 and in Surah 2 246-248 and Surah 2 249-251.

A prophet of Israel appoints Saul as king after the Israelites petition the prophet for a king (Samuel 9:17; Al-Baqarah|2.247). At least a few people are not happy with Samuel's choice. Saul is going into battle with his army and is unsure about his victory. David kills Goliath, a significant warrior in the opposing army (Samuel 17:50; Al-Baqarah|2.251). In the Bible, Goliath is the champion of the Philistine army. In the Qur'an, he is the leader.

Prophet Samuel is the Prophet who is spoken of in 2:246...

salaam dear brother and you are correct. for some odd reason people always get confuse with this surah. This verse and the following verses tell the story of Samuel, peace be upon him, Talut (Saul) who is chosen by God to be the king of Israel that leads them against the army of Goliath, and David, peace be upon him, who is a part of Saul's army and kills Goliath.

"in his time Israel had suffered from much corruption within and many reverses without. the Philistines had made a great attack and defeated Israel with great slaughter. the Israelites instead of relying on Faith and their own cohesion brought out their most sacred possession, the ark of the covenant to help them fight.

In The Qur'an I don't think so but he's

Mentioned in Hadiths Yes...

Abu `Amr al- `Iraqi told us according to his isnad on the authority of Ibn Abi Najih that the Prophet mentioned a man from the Children of Israel who wore armour (striving) in the way of God for one thousand months. The Muslims were amazed at that, so God revealed: “Lo, He revealed it on the Night of Power. And what will explain to you the Night of Power? The Night of Power is better than one thousand months“, during which that man wore armour (striving) in the way of God.

Tabari relates that the weapon of Shamsun, peace be upon him, was the jawbone of a camel. It is therefore of interest to recall that the first blow struck in defense of Islam was with the jawbone of a camel, wielded by the Cavalier of Islam Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas, may Allah be pleased with him, seemingly by force of circumstance. Yet since the Last Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is reported to have said: “The wise of this community are like the prophets of the Children of Israel,” this conformity of signs may very well be a simple confirmation of this tradition.
