Nah they're cool as hell. I've had... maybe 6 of them over my life, not sure how they got that reputation as being dangerous. They're very loyal, great animals.
They are dope. Jus a lil protective, Jus like any other dogg. The thing is. Rotts have sooo much energy and are easily exicted. Had one as a kid. My favorite type of dog honestly. They are loyal as fukk and very fun to be around.

do your research and get the dog from proper breeders with a reputation of producing good sound animals. A protective mastiff dog like a rotti should be of sound temperament. Good Stock will give you that.

I'd get the rottie as a pup not a grown-up.
They're easily excitable and get bored quick (tear up shoes and rip down curtains) then look at you like 
in my experience with em. Not dangerous per say unless you raise them to be. Mine was a BIG dog that never quite grasped the concept that your big ass ain't a puppy anymore so you can't just hop up on people anymore

THING IS THEY ARE INTIMIDATING DOGS AS FAR AS LOOKS. I LIKE THEM BUT I WOULDN'T OWN ONE. TOO BIG AND TOO STRONG.

I had mines for almost 14yrs before she died from old age. Sweetest dog I ever owned but she wouldn't take no shyt from strangers unless I was there and even then she'd stand close by to protect me.
You have to set ground rules with dogs that have that "serve and protect master" mindset and be an alpha leader otherwise they'd become destructive, too aggressive, and basically treat you like shyt.

Check out classifieds (ebay classifieds) or craigslist, for a good dog with no papers that's been properly vetted too.

I own two of them that I raised as pups. both are super loyal, super friendly, and real smart. As pups they destroy everything and act a fukkin fool in general. Both turned into lazy fukks as adults.
i trained both of them the exact same and one is a bytch made softie who doesn't bark and definitely wouldn't do shyt to an intruder and one is a killer that gets ready for violence if its night time and car doors close or theres just wind hitting the windows.

Had two in my life... Super loyal, make sure you have alot of space for the dog to play because they will tear shyt up if you dont. Both of ours were from Germany my pops was in the first iraq war and we brought one back with us. He was trained (although we had to give the commands in German). I always remember how protective that dog was over my whole fam it was crazy. Its not that he would be in attack mode, but he was always watching making sure no fukkery was going on when we had strangers around.

Yeah. She's 9 now. They're extremely loyal dogs. They need to have stuff to do all the time. Toys to play with and destroy. They're energetic as fukk, and very excitable. Like someone else said, my girl never really got the memo that she wasn't a tiny lil puppy anymore for quite some time, and she got up to like 90.
And real talk, rott puppies are probably the cutest puppies. We got our dog when she was just a few weeks old and she was beyond adorable.
