It used to be the Teen Titans. Back in the 80s when Marv Wolfman and George Perez were on the book the Titans were neck and neck in popularity with the X-Men books.
They even did a crossover:

Yes I would agree to this but DC fukked up by not keeping the original teen titans from the 80s, now I see them as a fantastic four in popularity.

DC should have created a super hero team to compete with Marvel's x-men, Justice league already competing with avengers,

Marvel has two super teams(x-men & avengers) to fall back to while DC only has one.(justice league)

If so than teen titans ain't as popular now as they was in the 80's.

Actually Doom Patrol debuted 3 or 4 months before Xmen so it's kinda the other way around.

Currently, there isn't one.

In terms of diversity and weirdness and earth based, the closest you would've gotten is Winick's Outsiders. But that's not current.

Well... Charles Xavier is actually based on a DC character named Chief.
