great list; I'll double down on Everett and Ward. I don't read enough fiction to add much moreMy current faves for fiction are
SA Cosby: southern bruh and all his books are well written, drenched in the southern feel, and fire. He coming up...got a blurb from Stephen king a few years back. They all good. He can write like hell
Jesmyn Ward: Amazing writer...incredible prose. She is the opposite of cosby as I would call her a litetary writer. I could tell you Cosby book is about XYZ. Most of her books are about the characters. Salvage the bones is about a black family prepping for hurricane Katrina, a character losing her virginity, and some dog fights. Thats it but the characters are so real and stay in your brain to thr point youll miss them when their gone.
Coleston Whitehead....incredible. underground railroad gets all the love and its good...but the Nickel Boys, Harlem Shuffle, and the Crook Manfesto are straight classics
Walter Mosley....been a monster for decades and still is. He has multiple series that are must reads and a book called John Woman which ive read two times (its a little weird but its dope)
James McBride....monster...straight classics: Deacon King Kong, Good Lord Bird, 5 carot soulnetc.
Percievel Evertt: genius, weirdn no two books alike. Check out Trees (white people getting killed and man looking like Emit till found at each crime scene) and Erasure (movie American Fiction was based on it but book way better)
Victor Lavalle: lone women and another dope joint about abook collector (the changeling)...both really good
Tayarie jones .....an american marriage.
Tanarive Due...if you look.horror
All i got off the top of. my head...if i go through my kindle collection im sure i missed some
