imo it was the Dark Knight :jbhmm:

that was the first superhero movie to really get respect on a massive scale

EDIT: forgot to put Batman (1989) on the poll :wow:

Totally agree, in regards to the general public. Everyone involved was dead serious about the production and putting their best foot forward in TDK.
But for me personally, I did have a :ohhh: "Oh shyt, this reminds me of the comics." I read I gotta say the first X-Men joint.

We had seen plenty of Batman movies over the past 30 years, so even though The Dark Knight was next level stuff and still the best of the genre, I don't think it was the start of the hero hype. I think it was the success of Iron Man that really got the hype train rolling for hero movies. That movie set everything Marvel has done since in motion.

IMO the Hulk. Shameless comic styling, it was super hyped at the time. Hype led to ticket sales. At that point I think they realized if you put an ad campaign behind a comic movie and turn it into a blockbuster it’s a license to print money.

X-Men made a nice splash.

But Spider-Man set CBMs in motion full throttle.

-Arguably the best opening theme in CBMs to this day.
-The "spider kiss."
-"With great power, comes great responsibility." If I have to explain, you don't belong in the discussion. IIRC, the only thing in media mimicked more back then was The Matrix's slow motion effect. Felt like a running gag after awhile.

Plus it was fukkin SpiderMan on the big screen for the first time. Marvel's most popular character showed out and the rest was history.

Remember seeing it with my pops like it was yesterday. :mjcry::wow:

it's Spider-man especially with its correlation to how the country was feeling after 9/11
