Mardi Gras it overall checks the most boxes to making a grand event.

In terms of culture: it’s the day before Lent. Much more people around the world knows why and when it happens.

Everyone knows what happens when women get beads. That started with Mardi Gras.

But I'm only here to party, y'all
Carry every weekend like it's Mardi Gras

Day of the Dead is probably next or at least top 3 because most people know it’s Halloween. A lot of people don’t know the dates of the other festivals.

Influential would be tough to say.

I'd argue jouvert; the Trinidad style is one of the biggest festivals in Canada (Caribana) US (Labour Day parade), UK has their own version, and I'm seeing Mas happening in Japan.

But it's probably Diwali, Eid or Pride because of numbers.

Do Christians have a festival that's celebrated across the board?

I mean technically St.Patrick was a catholic priest. :hubie:

I suppose Christianity as a whole is kinda puritan and anti-fun by design. They made multiple high profile attempts to shut down things like mardis gras or carnival or even st patties in a way that a religion like hinduism doesnt do for its members' festive seasons. :patrice:

Above the fray.
Hard to compare because each one is significant to the participants.

Boston is synonymous with Irish Americans, but their parade plays second fiddle to the St Patrick's Day parade in NYC.

======

Brasil, New Orleans, and Trini carnivals are related as those are celebrations coming from Catholic former slave colonies. They differ based on the customs of of the particular Euros, and the ethnic components of the Africans in those colonies.

Among Black people would say that the one in Trinidad had the most global influence, though. West Indian Day Parade in NYC, Caribana in Toronto and Notting Hill Festival in London are big events in their own rights. And those events were originally started by Trini immigrants trying to bring their home celebration to the places they moved to.
