I'm from the UK going NY this September for the first time with wifey. Where should I be looking to stay for easy access to access real good food, dope spots for shopping, night life etc etc

Seen deals for time square but I'm guessing thats really expensive and maybe not fully worth it for a person with my cultural interests ( I don't wanna stay in the hood but I want us to have a tourist experience with a little more culture). Somewhere close to the main tourist things but also where I can walk a lot of cool places. I dunno

Advice of the place to stay and General NY holiday tips

EDIT:

HOTEL BOOKED (Matha Washington) But general tourist NY advise welcomed

If u want something close to the main tourist things but also where U can walk to a lot of cool places, That would be Times Square. The Marriot Marquis around Times Square might be perfect for u. They have cool elevators...They have resturants in the building. They even have a rotating resturant that would be nice to experience once. Then when u step outside u have all types of touristy things just feet away from u. They dont allow u to smoke in the room tho..... Me personally I'm not really into spending over 300 bucks a night for a hotel room unless we spliiting the bill. ButI believe you'd getthe experience u want At the marriot Marquis. If not there search for something cheaoer in that same location because Times Square sounds like what u want to experience.

Props. What about experiencing "real new York". Can you get everywhere pretty easily with taxi and subway ? I want to not only experience the typical tourist stuff but also where people from NY consider the dope spots too

Sorry for my vagueness.

I'm to old to know where the "dope spots" are.....I coulda told u in the 90's about a spot like "Playland" which was around Times Square but I'm out of the loop in 2015. The most I can suggest is resturants....French - Le Bernadine, Chinese Food - Shun Lee, Soul Food - Amy Ruths, Italian food - Morini's, Seafood- City Island in the Bronx (sammys or The LobsterHouse) , Steak - Ruth Chris, If u want a fancier version of Benihana, there's a resturant called Momofuku. Baltazzar is a cool touristy French resturant. Landmarc is also a cool restaurant. My favorite Mexican spot is in the Bronx and its called Estrellita Poblana, there's like four of them.

Also how much will it run you to get a taxi or travel from Newark to NY. Virgin airlines don't go to. JFK apparently
