It’s definitely in the top 3 for me. I’m rewatching it now as an adult since I was a kid when it came and man it’s even more funny now that I understand the jokes more as an adult.

When i think of black sitcoms it's the first one that comes to mind for me. Then close 2nd is Cosby Show. Then probably Fresh Prince. This is like the top tier to me.

Then there's a gap and a bunch of other stuff on that next tier.

For me it’s between Fresh Prince and Martin. Martin was funnier but the story lines and themes in Fresh Prince were better. I never was a Cosby guy but I understand the the legacy of it. My wife is going on a binge of black sitcoms she cleared sister sister, girlfriends, now she on different world. I told her she need to start bullshytting and get on Martin since she never watched Martin like that.

For me, I'd say 6-10 spot.

Sanford and Son & The Jeffersons were funnier to me, or moreso my brand of humor that walked the balance, and of course there's The Cosby Show, A Different World. Everybody Hates Chris. I'd go:

Cobsy Show
The Jeffersons
Sanford & Son
Everybody Hates Chris
A Different World

To me, Martin dukes it out with The Wayans Bros, What's Happening, Living Single, Bernie Mac, Fresh Prince...and Abbott Elementary is rising up the ranks.

The TGIF stuff was good, but the best show Mr. Cooper kept changing the format. Amen, 227, My Wife & Kids (until Jr turned into a super idiot) had great moments. Eve was ok.

Never watched Black-Ish, and wasn't a fan of Moesha, Smart Guy, Sister Sister, Malcolm & Eddie, Good Times, Steve Harvey....I know there's a few more that I'm forgetting, and I'm not even counting the 1-season shows like Out All Night, Thea, Sinbad

If You're naming modern era sitcoms from the 2010s to present, Abbott is rising in rank to you but not Blackish nor Insecure? That's the modern Big 3, and I feel comfortable giving all 3 lofty praise in a historical sense, with the nostalgic sitcoms of our youth...

Personally I think you're lowballing Martin. I think you can make the case it's the best black sitcom ever, so anything ranking it below 4 at the lowest, seeks unnecessarily harsh...

Cosby Show will always be the goat no matter how much they have blackballed showing it. Fresh Prince and Martin are right behind it though. It's crazy cause though I grew up on those shows I'm now at the point how I was coming up as kid watching older shows like Sanford and Son and Goodtimes where you've seen every episode so many times that you don't even have to look at the show anymore. I've gotten the same way with My Wife and Kids too.

Its sad that when I see most of the episodes from season 5, I switch off but them first 4 solidified Martin pretty close to the top.
