HBO recently announced that they are digitally remastering The Wire for a marathon this fall. So we deemed it appropiate to give a run-down on the happenings of the characters since the show ended in 2008.

No tomorrow is promised in the world of acting but with a cadre as talented as this one, it was only a matter of time before they began to make a presence elsewhere.

Avon Barksdale

Again, not a huge amount. A lead role in a movie called Joy Road, about a lawyer involved in a conspiracy that sees laws passed just to fill up prisons, then there's Sweetwater, a film about Sweetwater Clifton, the first black player signed by the NBA. Both are due out later this year - but as he's a damn fine basketball player, we can see why they signed up Wood for Sweetwater's biopic.

Det. Shakima 'Kima' Greggs

Now she's back in the acting game after her break helping the underprivileged young people of Baltimore, Sonja has been keeping herself busy playing a - whaddayaknow? - homicide detective in medical drama Body Of Lies.

Omar Little
The big, bad shotgun toting gangster has hopped in a time machine and found work on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

Russell “Stringer” Bell

Elba is by far the most visible actor from the show, appearing in everything from feature films to Jay Z albums. You can currently catch him the upcoming thriller, No Good Deed opposite Taraji P. Henson.

Ervin Burrell

Once known as the “your rent’s due mother******” landlord from Coming to America, Faison has been very busy in roles such as Cinemax’s Banshee series and Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns.

Nick Sobotka

The only level-headed member of the Sobotka family has shown plenty of range as wackjob characters in Castle and Orange is the New Black.

Cedric Daniels

Since the series ended, Reddikk helped bring another popular show in Fringe on into the sunset.

Marlo Stanfield

Hollywood continuously wants to see Hector play the bad guy but the typecast hasn’t prevented him from landing more than a dozen roles since The Wire. Most recently he appeared in 50 Cent’s new hit show, Power.

Jimmy McNulty

Don’t be alarmed if you haven’t seen West on your TV screen as of late. He’s still very much the star in his home country of England and will be returning back to premium television on Showtime’s upcoming drama, The Affair.

Wee-Bey

If there’s a role for a thug out there, Johnson can be considered a viable candidate. He voiced the character of Harold “Stretch” Joseph in the wildly popular Grand Theft Auto V.

Chris Partlow

Akinnagbe is nothing like his sinister character in The Wire in real life, but has gone on to play similar roles in 2011′s Lottery Ticket and handful of popular drama television shows (Graceland, Blue Bloods, etc).

Michael (Wilds)

The convincingly cold-blooded Mike flipped the script on America when he starred in the 90210 reboot. However he’s made frequent appearances on this site as a budding R&B star.

Beadie Russell

Since The Wire wasn’t exactly a mainstream hit, audiences now best identify Ryan as “Holly” from The Office.

Felicia “Snoop” Pearson

In 2011, the actress narrowly escaped a prison sentence for drug trafficking thanks in part to a letter written by Wire creator David Simon, which he sent to the drug. She now works as a youth activist in Baltimore.

Bubbles

You’re liable to see Royo in a TV commercial any day of the week. He was also in 2012 Tuskegee Airmen film Red Tails.

Tommy Carcetti

Like many of his former castmates, Gillen has found work within the network, recently starring as key character in Game of Thrones.

Ellis Carver

The future of Balitmore’s fictional police department now has the attention of the future of America’s adults by starring in MTV’s Teen Wolf every week. He also stars alongside one his former castmates on AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Dennis “Cutty” Wise

Millions of viewers now identify Coleman as the burly protector of the living on The Walking Dead.

Wallace

David Simon felt remorseful about taking Jordan off the show so early but he’s doing alright for himself. After an acclaimed performance in 2013′s Fruitvale Station, he was cast as a Johnny Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.

William “Bunk” Moreland

The veteran actor reunited with David Simon in the HBO Hurricane Katrina series Treme and starred in the box-office smash Horrible Bosses in 2011. Catch him alongside the likes of Nicolas Cage and Peter Fonda in 2015 as well.

Bodie Broadus

Williams doesn’t mind if you call him “Bodie” in public. He’s also never strayed away from television.

Thomas “Herc” Hauk

Lombardozzi is well liked at the HBO studios and has appeared on their shows, Entourage, Bored to Death and most recently Boardwalk Empire with a fellow Wire castmate.
