Where are the black video game companies/anime studios/developers etc?

I remember watching a documentary about the God of War series and was surprised to see they had a black chick working on the game.


Other than that chick I can't think of any other black person in the industry.


It's like blacks are only the consumers and ain't behind the scenes when it comes to tech related stuff


Japan is small is fuk and has routinely been putting out tech piff for years. Africa is a huge ass continent that has produced literally nothing tech related.


Where is the black Bill Gates?

Where is the black Mark Zuckerberg?


you'd think that there would atleast be one 3rd party video game developer company by now that was created by a black person. Even those Netherland cacs at Naughty Dog even got their own sh1t b.

It kind of seems like it's taboo for a black person to like anime and I don't know why. My mom put on to that shyt when I was a kid letting me watch Vampire Hunter D and Fist of the North Star and other shyt and that shyt had me like

Games industry thing is weird I don't think I've seen one black person really, but I think one of the creators of PS Allstars is black maybe, felt like I've seen him in doing a lot of interviews promoting the game.

Going to school to learn about 3D work, that shyt is really fun to do.

Jerry Lawson, the man widely-credited with inventing the video game cartridge and its complimentary console, died of a heart attack this past Saturday at his home in Mt. View, California. He was 70-years old.

A native of Queens, Jerry moved to Silicon Valley in the ’70s to become a pioneer of its early tech scene. Digital Trends reports that he was the sole black member of the legendary Homebrew Computer Club, joining ranks with budding industry heavyweights like Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

(Sidenote: Vintage Computing has an amazing interview with Jerry before the time of his passing. When pressed about Jobs and Wozniak, Jerry simply offers, “I was not impressed with them — either one, in fact.”)

Lawson was the key engineer behind the Fairchild Channel F console— the first gaming system to utilize interchangeable ROM cartridges, making it easy for future users to switch between games. Though the Fairchild Channel F was soon eclipsed by its rival Atari, the technology was instrumental to shaping the console gaming industry today.

His family friend David Erhart tells Wired, “He continued building devices to control telescopes, lasers, tools, etc. up until the day he went to the hospital.”

Take an old cartridge, wrap it up in your shirt, and blow one out for Jerry, to whom we owe infinite thanks.

He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.

I can tell you why there aren't a lot of Blacks in gaming, it's because, Blacks tend not to pursue careers in computer science or even multimedia degrees and if they do they go into film production primarily. There quite a few black animators and comic book artists, but the bar to get in today is so fukking high that most never get over that hump. It used to be alot easier for Blacks to get on when I fist started out (mid 90s to early 2000's) because there was such a high demand, nowadays, it's contracting if anything. There are blacks in the video game industry, but they work in quality assurance, editors, writers, and a few are animators but no where of great influence. I know one personally, Felice Standifer, who was one of the producers of the earlier ATV games.
