I remember learning about him in history class so I don't understand why the article acts like people don't learn about him. I learned about him in the intro history class in college. Dude was fukked up as hell though.
King Leopold II of Belgium.
Went to two really good universities. Didnt hear of him in HS, or middle school.. or college. internet is were I learned...so op has a point.

Definitely learned about the "Belgian Congo" situation in college and ap world history. People have always and will always do each other like this and forget it years later.

The writer seems to be upset that this issue is not talked about more and he has a point. But I place some of the blame on the people you have to want to seek knowledge and learn about this. But with that King Leopold II should go down in history as the greatest monster to come out of the European monarchy.

props on this thread, imma keep it real i was aware to a certain extent of the atrocities in congo, the experiments, the tribal genocides but know very little about this Leopold II & belgium in africa, will definitely look into it.

if i remember correctly he was briefly mentioned in my history book, but there was no mention of genocide just his acquisition of the congo.
