:banderas::wow:

I never had a surround system before that, but that changed the game for sure.

People were buying DVD's just for the 5.1 soundtracks, sometimes regardless of if the movie sucked. LOL

The bullets flying in the rear speakers on 'Saving Private Ryan'(that may have been DTS tho).

I bought stuff like 'Gone in 60 Secs' :scust: and 'Fast & Furious', just to hear the car engines growling on the sub-woofer. Anything with airplanes/jets was also must hear.

Now videogames like GTA V pretty much put all those movies to shame :wow: That game sounds incredible still a year later.

Man i cant even watch a movie over anybodies house if they dont have a surround system

Its like watching a 4k tv for years and then going back to a old tube tv :scusthov:

And tv speakers have been getting worse and worse every year...i dont see how people do it

A surround system just improves the experience times 100

Gonna upgrade to 7.1 next month and move the 5.1 system to the bedroom :ahh:

Got a soundbar in the bedroom right now and even that sounds like trash compared to a receiver/speakers system

If youre still using your tv speakers you really dont know what you're missing

Y'all not lying. When I first got setup, I had to replay old games/movies just to see what I had missed. Started with TV speakers, went to a sound-bar, set up a 2.1 system and then made the move to a 7.1 system. Definitely something everyone should do, even if it means buying components over time.

You need zero experience.

1. First if youre a rookie get a home theater in a box LIKE this one

Has the receiver and the six speakers ready. Judge them by brand, wattage, reviews, and THE AMOUNT OF INPUTS. i have my tv, ps3, laptop, all hooked up..judge how many you need. Also, the types of inputs you need; standard stereo, speaker wire, headphone jack, and optical cable. Make sure to get this cable and that the device has at least one of these inputs.

2. Open it up and adjust settings based on how far away your speakers are. Make sure you place them correctly (front right in the front...and right)

3. Upgrade the center channel. This is the most used and usually HTIAB cheap out on center, i have an onkyo system and a box pioneer center channel.

4. Make sure your device (playstation or blu ray) are SET UP TO OUTPUT in surround / digital / dts.

5. Adujst audio setting based on what youre watching (tv, music, movie, etc)

It's fairly cheap now. To be honest, I still have my same speakers I've had for like 10 years, would still have the same receiver but it got fried in a lighting storm a few years ago.

I'm still on 5.1 & DTS....there's 7.1 surround out now though.

this scene in 5.1 was dope when I first got my setup.

Too much information to list here. Search and you'll see pretty quickly.
Basics of sound: a receiver, five or seven speakers, and a subwoofer.

A few receiver brands are Onkyo, Pioneer, Denon, Yamaha. As long as it can support your current and anticipated needs, it'll work. Speakers are the same. All I can say is look for quality build and trust your ears. For a budget system, HTiB (home theater in a box) is the main option, but the components are not always good quality. With these you also need to make sure the receiver doesn't have proprietary speakers connectors (Onkyo and Yamaha, for example, usually don't use proprietary connectors so those are possible options), which would mean you can't upgrade speakers. Otherwise, if you choose wisely, HTiB is a good start. I can't list a specific price because I don't know your budget or preference, but you could easily spend $200-$500 per component. A HTiB system could cost around $400 and up.

Most enthusiasts recommend buying each component individually for optimal sound but that's more expensive than say a HTiB, hence why that's a good buget option. With that in mind, another option is to buy components overtime. My recommendation would be a 2.1 (left and right speakers, with a sub) and then add a center, followed by surrounds. 5.1 is the current standard, 7.1+ is the future; currently, not much content is natively 7.1 but that may change over time. Setup is pretty easy as there are many guides online. It is probably one of the most important aspects. You can have the best components and still get mediocre sound because of poor speaker placement or lack of calibration.

Good speaker wires are a must. Don't forget to factor in speaker stands and room size/treatment.

My upgrade to a lower end 5.1Pioneer receiver has been gawdly in my small space. Same og center channel, rears, and sub that came in the sony htib, also old school floor speakers I got from garage sale. You can Frankenstein a good sounding setup.
