Growing up, songs might mention selling dope, the problem of crack (pcp, coke, as well) in the community, and mentions of smoking weed. Dope fiends and drug addicts were routinely clowned, then like around 00-02 people mentioned x a bit of course Houston had the sizzurp scene, but that wasn't mainstream. But in the past 5 years damn near all the rappers (and singers) to come out are fukking dope friends - Molly, Xanax, oxy (in all its forms), lean, lsd, shrooms, dmt, weed...when - actually WHY the fukk did it become cool to be a drug addict :wtf:

Came in to say the same thing. Rappers been drug addicts but Wayne first one to make it "cool" and corrupt a whole generation.
man, no it wasn't. being a weedhead was ok, errything else they dabbled in (aside from houston nikkas) wasn't promoted in every damn song on an album. dope fiends got the business on tracks, even dust heads like the wu was slick in how they slid in references. now all these young cats revel is ingesting every substance that can possibly provide a buzz in damn near every song...being a drug addict aint cool :mjcry:

Nah it's never been cool, no one want's to be around a coke/meth/crack/skaghead, there are some weed heads who are unbearable also, however I'll take raiding the fridge over taking the fridge any day.

Outside of crack and H doing drugs was always a thing.

You did at one point have these fake ass mafia rappers trying to give off that "don't get high on your own supply" but that was bullshyt

It was more of a rarity and taboo thing to hear rappers talk about it, as far as mainstream....but, even 15 years ago, you had Shyne, Beanie Sigel, Black Rob, Prodigy, Styles P, Andre Nickatina, Mac Dre, Three Six, BG, Juvenile, plus ALL the Houston rappers came into the game talking about lean... just off the top of my head talking about using coke, e, pills, shrooms, lean, heroin....It's become much more prevalent, evidenced by the fact nearly all mainstream radio rap song have a reference to molly, lean, or xanax.

My basic thoughts are just like anything it became more accessible, and everyone ran it into the ground....It was much more rare and head turning back then though.

Also, a generational shift in the dope game from the 80's/90s/2000's to the rise of BMF/Meech, all those guys were heavy on pills....rappers imitated and took cues, and came up under guys who would never fukk with coke, because of the stigma from crack, although obviously some did, it wasn't fashionable, so to speak. As this progressed, the old mantras and rules, loosely speakig, broke down, and now, the common stereotype is the Future model, leaned out out his mind, barred up, smoking blunts, moving bricks....as opposed to the controlled, mafioso type businessman Jay represented in the 90's...obviously different regions, but the point is fair, I think.
