Convo got me thinking about back when Nintendo hard meant more than needing a pause as so many games were a community effort as everyone playing would pitch in with the solutions and tips. Nobody was paying that extortionate rate phone call to hear someone talk slow about how to pass a section so we just kept it moving as a collective as everyone had a spin trying to beat the system.

Really is quite odd, if you think about it, because whilst there was less it felt like more as you were so involved and invested. Not to mention the immense challenge that came with these titles as they didn't make it easy to win so you'd play a game to death to master it as the designer seemed hell bent on making the title the equivalent of this:

We really experienced some harsh realities and aggressive content back when, don't you think?

Barely any checkpoints, no saves, no handholding. Best finish the game in one sitting with limited credits and retries if you truly want to win.
