When hip-hop heads debate the greatest producers of all time, why DJ Muggs rarely gets mentioned?

Muggs did a lot of classic sh*t for Cypress, House of Pain, Funkdoobiest and Cube, but I don’t think he diversified enough back in the day.

Definitely a legend, but a lot of his work kinda flew under the radar. But without him, we don’t get Alchemist. So Muggs will forever be respected for what he brought to the game. Dude is the truth.

Most likely because his flagship group, Cypress, got further and further from just straight hip-hop as time went on.

Obviously he made his own path with SA but he's not as visible as a lot of the other guys listed. And frankly he's been on auto-pilot for about 10-15 years now.

I'd say despite all that he's still a legend.

Quik is arguably the most talented hip hop producer when you take his technical skill level into consideration (mixing, engineer, musician, etc). I was making a general point about how west coast legends are overlooked. And yes, Muggs is a legend.

I'd also argue a loooot of rap fans (mainly east coast dudes) didn't know or give a shyt about Quik until he got that Black Album placement. That's what I'm talking about.

They didn’t maybe the first album but after that I don’t think so. His music became more and more musical and breezy. I don’t think that matches the vibe on the east coast. Plus the perm and him dissing New York didn’t help

Muggs was a mentor to Alchemist and then ended up plugging him up with the Mobb to the point where P really thought that Alc was a fed….


He did a couple whole albums with GZA.


I think that Muggs likes to stay out the way and that’s good.
