When did you stop caring about being seen as "cool" and being validated by others?

Back when i was 16...

real talk, the reason why i stopped caring about that shyt is because it was unnecessary stress and POINTLESS. Plus i already had a strong sense of self where I never was a follower and pretty much did my own thing either because i was outcasted or folks were scared to deal with me for being "weird". It worked out for me in the long run

When I left High School. You learn quickly that to almost a few, like about 5-10 peeps, that once graduation ends... everyone drifts apart and all have to follow their paths in life. My 20th HS Anniversary was in 2023, and like of a class of 400... only 20 showed up.

Sure we have Facebook connections, but really why catch up with folks you never talk since you've left?

You learn that years after you leave, and if your longing for those simple day in High School... then your a failure at being an Adult.

By sophomore year of High School. High School was by far the best time period for me during the schooling years and I was an low key breh that didn't socialize with anyone. Where's I tried to fit in Elementary and Middle School and it was a far worse experience :francis:

I was a military brat so I never cared about others because I was always on the move or my best friends.
:mjcry:
My Wife says I'm detached.
:francis:
I make an effort to be emotionally available to my Wife and our Daughters. They know I love and value them.

Everybody else

Sophomore year of High School.

I was in Art class. I don't remember what I was doing at the time, probably talking about DBZ or comics.

One of them semi-popular girls who talked too much in class turned to me with a disgusted look and said, "You're SO weird." :usure:
Something clicked. I replied "Thanks. And who are you?":heh: and just laughed in her fukking face. She didn't know how to respond. She never spoke to me again and avoided me after that. :mjlol:

I wear "weird" as a badge of honor. TF do I want to be like everyone else for? :russ:

Middle(Well was called Junior High back then) school for me in L.A. I walked over to some White and Asian kids playing D&D and found it interesting, since I have a vivid imagination. I started to play, and did not care they were considered the dorks.

Others asked me why I was over there with them, complained I was not joining in sports (I was one of the best players) like Kickball, Sockball, Handball and Basketball at school. Even girls stated they would date me, if I stopped playing D&D. I ignored them all, because refraining from doing what I found fun just to belong seemed idiotic to me.

I am glad I did it, because it opened up new pathways for my imagination and exposed me to something I would not have really been exposed to, if I had stayed only in my normal social group. It also showed me how to move in different social groups simultaneously, once I started to balance my time between my various interests.
