I know there was a shift somewhere although I'm too young to know when but I know damn well that the "9-5" isn't/wasn't just a saying people used. But nowdays it seems like employers are demanding a full 8 hour work shift from there employees instead of an hr break within that 9-5 window. I was just curious about this. Those with more work experience in corporate america can tell me exactly when this shift seemed to occur

bosses want to literally get 8 hours of work out of you, instead of 7 or 7 1/2 ............................................. the thing though is that many places are pushing folks to the 29 hour work week to avoid healthcare law .............. so it depends on how you look at if this is a good or bad thing....... I still think the 40 hour work week, working 10 hours a day is the GOAT work week if you have to work for someone...... that 3 day weekend ................. :ohlawd:

Stop working for other people. Become self employed or start your own business. It's 2013. fukk that 8 to 5 shyt or 9 to 5 shyt. Think outside the box and stop working to make other people except YOU rich.

this is preached alot, but alot of ppl use this message in the wrong way (mlm schemes) Im starting to hate it. Some ppl are meant to be workers, and I as a "boss" def wont be promoting this b/c Id need employees.

you hourly mofos...
When you get paid salary you get paid regardless of hours worked...what happened was management started realizing that while you're saying you're working 8 hours, you're only actually working 7. So basically it changed when management realized that if you said you were working for 8 hours then you sure the fuk better be WORKING for 8 hours. Eat? Do that shyt on your time.

oh and if i remember correctly those are what banker hours used to be. 9-5. That's where it originated...i believe at least.

Yep, I've had three full-time jobs and they've all been 8-5/9-6, or either something like 8-4:30/9-5:30 with 30 mins for lunch. Current job is 8-5 and I've LOVE if I could sleep in an extra hour.

I suppose employers realized that they didn't have to pay people for their lunch hr. In this economy there's certainly no incentive to.
