If we didn't hold rappers to the standard of rapping the lives they actually live, it'd hold up.


FWIW, it's just as lazy as blaming rap music and video games for people shooting each other...despite their being all the statistical evidence to prove it's not true.
While it is dumb to blame the violence that people commit on music and video games, we can't pretend that art and life don't imitate each other.
The elevation of gangs to pop culture status after the Death Row era is a perfect example of this.

Many of us have watched one or more of our friends growing up come to school one day dressed as their favorite rapper and pretend like we wouldn't notice.
Or listen to one of our well adjusted friends rattle off ultra violent rhymes they wrote knowing they gotta get home and finish their homework.
Or we watched one of our friends completely buy into the fantasy and fukk their lives up.
Matter of fact, I'm watching a show about small town Canadian white girls who fukked their lives up pretending to be Crips.
It's impossible for hip-hop to have the stature it has without acknowledging its immense influence.
