I've never seen a "Madea" or whatever movie in full in my life
never appealed to me at all...
I am, however, a little tired of the narrative arch of most "black" movies that are more series
Starts out when they are young
tons of racism in the middle
overcomes the racism (usually has some scene where the protagonist slams their hand on a table or wall)
triumphs in the end...
I would love to see a more "in depth" movie. Tell me about Benjamin Banneker and how he had REAL interactions with Thomas Jefferson
Edit: All of these "court" movies, tell me about the woman who sued for her freedom and won and helped Massachusetts decide slavery was illegal...Elizabeth Freeman.
Show me more behind the interesting man that was George Washington Carver
If you can create a fictional movie about white people in Germany killing Hitler (Inglorious b*stards) why not make a fictional movie about black women during the 1960's being badasses?
Tell me about Phillis Wheatley the first black woman with a book published who wrote a poem and read for George Washington before his presidency
Shyt, make a modern movie with YOUNG black women (in their 20's) doing something good/cool/exciting/science fiction based rather than the same old "single woman can't find a man" or "working woman too successful for love" tropes we get in every Kevin Hart Maurice Chestnut movie
