Maybe not, it could be the wifi card in your computer, test your wifi on other devices and see what you get.

Yes there shouldn't be that much of a difference between the wired and wireless speeds

wifi on my phone and other laptop had similar speeds.

I actually pay for 100Mbps, but this old router doesn't support those speeds. The Wireless N router kept having to be reset so I went back to this old one.
