The game was racially insensitive in that it's depictions of Africans PRIOR to the disease was reminiscent of old western flicks showing Africans as savage brutal people. Right at the very start of the game you're some Military white guy walking down a street where there's just some Africans standing around, staring you down with a look of menace. There's a long history of "white man goes to africa and battles savage blacks" that was prominent of yesteryear in the Western world. It's not just about people feeling some type of way about black africans getting killed in a game. Using the argument that RE4 had you killing spaniards and them looking like idiots isn't the same because there isn't long standing historical context that's still a prevailing notion today. Post colonialism and hey let's use imagery and racially sensitive themes in a land that's often depicted as the "dark land" so to speak. They even managed to throw in the spear chuckin African imagery for fukkery
Only explanation was that they were a normal people prior to the parasites in some document but that doesn't explain the lazy ass primitive swamp they lived in which screams lazy.

They all have to be killed. And given the history, given the not so distant post-colonial history, you would say to yourself, why would you uncritically put up those images? It's not as simple as saying, "Oh, they shot Spanish zombies in 'Resident Evil 4,' and now 'black zombies and that's why people are getting upset." The imagery is not the same. It doesn't carry the same history, it doesn't carry the same weight. I don't know how to explain it more clearly than that.
That's the whole thing where only Chris Redfield appears to be human before they turn into zombies; the humanity of other people is in question. It's like you barely see their faces, he doesn't really interact with them, he sort of walks through this thing and it's sort of, "Is he there? Is he not?"
