What's with Nas recording Commercial songs..

the one with Aaliyah "You wont see me tonight" , "Virgo", "Hey Nas" and now "Summer on Smash"...

They would do a lot for him sales wise but if you're not releasing them, what's the point??

But besides that, I think he just does certain joints for the hell of it, not necessarily to be singles.

Even tho', not putting the Aaliyah record out as a single was probably the dumbest of all decisions. Woulda definitely taken off.

lol googled summer on smash wiki and 1 of the results was "what is summer on smash?"

But I'm guessing that maybe he couldn't get those dudes to the video shoot at the time, maybe columbia were to cheap to release as many videos as he wanted.
Instead he picked the songs he wanted. On Def Jam he's released all songs that sounded like singles, summer on smash might still get released.

But then again, the label makes the final calls on stuff like that anyway, so who knows. Maybe he did intend to put the Aaliyah joint out as a third from I Am... and it got shot down.

I think Nas listens to fan reaction and picks out his post-album singles. The label probably decides the pre-album singles.

Some rappers do that like Jay & Kanye with Watch The Throne. Lift Off was tailor made for the radio yet they end up releasing No Church and Gotta Have It.
