It's likely just copying. May even be the same people working on scripts. Not sure if you've ever read into anything about how Hollywood scripts come to be, but it's a fukking assembly line. All these movies are the same because the process is exactly the same. Script doctors coming in with their tvtrope ready scenarios...just cut and paste as appropriate.

Same thing with the "villain escapes" trope that we are seeing so much of lately. Popularized by Joker in The Dark Knight. A few years later, you end up seeing it in Skyfall, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Avengers etc. Villains can't just be smart, nuanced, dangerous, etc...they need to be so clever as to be able to mastermind a plan whereby their capture and subsequent escape is paramount to their ultimate plan.

Government Agency Head/Top Brass/Precinct Captain : "Don't worry boys, we've got THE NEFARIOUS locked up in max security, he's not going anywhere"....:smugfavre:

Computer Nerd/Lower ranking officer/Tech Specialist : "Commander, something is wrong. His biometric implant has turned off"....:merchant:

*Cut to security cam. There are two dead guards and a cell door open*

Cac Hero/Ace Detective/Bald Space Marine : "Oh my god....we've been duped....this is what he wanted all along"....:dwillhuh:

Ya I understand that there are certain rules of storytelling that people have become accustom to. So most big budget productions are afraid to break away from it...

But writers are just getting lazy. We're seeing what is basically the same scene 4 times in the last year.

I can see how it's an attractive set piece though. It's effective, it's exciting and it's cheaper than shooting interiors inside and subsequently blowing up a building.

Its Hollywoods current theme/story of the year.

They rinsed the fukk out of it back in the 90's, especially in the late part of the decade.

93/94 - Tombstone and Wyatt Earp
97 - Volcano and Dantes Peak
98 - Antz and A Bugs Life
98 - Deep Impact and Armageddon
98/99 - Trueman Show and Edtv
98 - Saving Private Ryan and Thin Blue Line
00 - Red Planet and Mission to Mars

You get the idea

Sometimes art imitates life just as life imitates art...

For example, the FBI agents that killed the Boston Bomber mysteriously fell out of a chopper on a "Training Exercise"
