It's likely just copying. May even be the same people working on scripts. Not sure if you've ever read into anything about how Hollywood scripts come to be, but it's a fukking assembly line. All these movies are the same because the process is exactly the same. Script doctors coming in with their tvtrope ready scenarios...just cut and paste as appropriate.
Its Hollywoods current theme/story of the year.
They rinsed the fukk out of it back in the 90's, especially in the late part of the decade.
93/94 - Tombstone and Wyayt Earp
97 - Volcano and Dantes Peak
98 - Antz and A Bugs Life
98 - Deep Impact and Armageddon
98/99 - Trueman Show and Edtv
98 - Saving Private Ryan and Thin Blue Line
00 - Red Planet and Mission to Mars
You get the idea
Same thing with the "villain escapes" trope that we are seeing so much of lately. Popularized by Joker in The Dark Knight. A few years later, you end up seeing it in Skyfall, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Avengers etc. Villains can't just be smart, nuanced, dangerous, etc...they need to be so clever as to be able to mastermind a plan whereby their capture and subsequent escape is paramount to their ultimate plan.
