What's the opinion on RZA's beats produced in the last few years?

Very hit and miss, to be generous. His stuff with Kanye has been dope imo.


It doesn't take a genius to tell which parts RZA did and which Kanye added. That piano loop/string synth is pure old school RZA. He also has a beat on Watch The Thrown that features a familiar sample but isn't bad; still, you can tell Kanye added stuff to the beat.

IMO the best RZA beat of the last 5 years is Campfire


Nice mixture of samples and live strings. Unfortunately a lot of the rest of that album features samples we've heard a many times, just with live instruments thrown in. It just feels lazy to me.

IMO you can tell RZA isn't in love with music anymore. He probably just has a chest of beats he did in 2005-9 that he sells to people

they've been anywhere from good-great, not counting the Wu Weds stuff which is alot of demos/cutting room floor shyt the only retail track i havent liked is Blowin In the Wind off Iron Fists. oh that 9th Prince track was a throwaway too, do not like that

i still think he could produce an incredible album, but hes always doing different things so im not sure the likelyhood of that. hes supposed to be doing all of Meth's album, we'll see if that ever happens

edit: was going mostly from 09-12, wasnt the biggest fan of Digi Snax

He's also supposed to be doing all of Liquid Swords II, is apparently executive producing the new Ghostface album due out next month, another film after this one etc.

He's the worst person at making promises after DOOM.

GZA's next album is Dark Matter, i wouldnt expect another album from him until 2 years from now. and even then thats pushing it, hes usually takes 3 years between albums

if i can get that Meth and a Clan album next year, id be thrilled. but you just never know

I think it's within the first 10 minutes or so. He basically says him and Meth were supposed to put in work but Meth hasn't shown up. nikkas throwing away easy money

more miss than hit. tbh RZA run from 93-97 is his only saving grace; his output since then has been sketchy at best.
