What's the least sized/equipped fighting force that could defeat a street gang?

I am gonna say a dozen man squad with standard US Army training could take 100 gang bangers. Bully proofs, flack helmets, AKs, twin 45 semi autos, armored vehicles. Surprise attack.

12 guys...how many vehicles?
are the vehicles gonna stay manned?

vehicles are good for moving, not stationary combat in a city.

how are 12 guys (minus the dudes in the vehicles) gonna search through hundreds or thousands of apartments while protecting themselves?

let's say you have 2 armored vehicles manned...just waiting for a molotov cocktail.

now you got 10 dudes.

break them up into 2 teams of 5.

In the average drive by scenario you have like three cats dumping on let's say a dozen people standing around. Generally the shooters can make the hit and peel without taking any damage. These dudes are usually shooting wildly and speeding off.

If they were really serious they could actually jump out and aim. They could likely drop everyone (the dozen cats standing around). From there, kick the door, and secure the house
I guess from there keep mashing on them every couple of days whereever you find stragglers until they submit or all perish.

this is really missing the point. Of course people with APCs and machine guns can mow down a 100 street toughs. That's why gangs are rarely just 100 people sitting in a house with guns waiting for an attack. They are secretive, distributed and socially intertwined in the community

Spot on. Blending in with a population gives you key advantages in these type of settings, especially if its in the interest of the aggressor not to turn the rest of population against them, as well as not attempting to decimate the population or infrastructure.
