He def was doing some writing over there I dont care what none of you say, same m.o as gillie. Sign you, say they gonna put you out, but they just want you around to make Birdman and Wayne hot.

How did you go from there to the situation with Yo Gotti and Cash Money?

[Gotti heard] some guy from Memphis playing my music in a barbershop. He reached out and from there we did an independent deal, which stated that we’d go find distribution and become partners in business. And we did that — we went and got the deal with Cash Money together. I thought it was a pretty good thing on the front end. [Laughs]

It didn’t end up the way you planned …?

I mean, it’s spilled milk. I know it’s probably noteworthy to talk about but at this point it’s just lost time. I didn’t release an album, I didn’t shoot a video. I was featured on a couple of Cash Money releases – [Birdman & Lil Wayne's] Like Father Like Son and one of those Birdman CDs [5* Stunna]. I turned in 80 or 90 songs. I did some writing for stuff that never came out … but, you know, it was a launching pad and a learning experience for me. It taught me to tighten up my business, it taught me to go back to my independent roots. Now I’m probably way closer to that backpack full of CDs.

If you look at what Cash Money’s putting out now, it’s hard to imagine you being in with the likes of Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Yeah, I think when Wayne reached [a certain sales] plateau or whatever his music started changing. Over the time period that I was there he became the star of the label and they followed his lead. I could see how you’d say I wouldn’t necessarily fit into that. I hadn’t really thought about it as much like that because I spent the last year-and-a-half or two years either trying to get out of [the deal] or just excited that I was out of it.

I'm not sure if he was ever writing for Wayne, though I am quite sure any rumor of that is unconfirmed as of now. However, their styles - particularly Wayne in his prime - definitely mimic each other so it wouldn't surprise me.

:salute: on checking Lito out tho, one of the hardest working dudes ... I been meaning to realllllly give Fried Turkey and SB2 some spins, they've been on my backburner :(

And he was down with YMCMB, but the only play he ever really got was a feature on Like Father, Like Son when he was still All-Star.

And he was reportedly signing with G-Unit last year, but it looks like that fell through.

Regardless of who he may or may not have written for, Lito is honestly I think the best rapper out. :yeshrug:

Call me a stan if you want - I probably am, but on my life his shyt is super writerly. It takes a lot of repeated listens to really appreciate it but the sophistication he brings to his topics, songwriting, and wordplay is beyond :mindblown:

He was Yo Gotti's artist who was signed to CMR through the production deal they gave Gotti back in the day...Grey Goose was a local hit back in like '05 and that is what I think originally put him on Gotti's radar, they ended up remixing it with verses from Gotti, Jeezy and (eventually) Wayne after he was signed and it was a minor southern hood hit...that he (Allstar) was writing for Wayne back then (during his prime C2-Dedication era no less) would be laughable for anybody that knows what they're talking about and was actually following them back then...but this is the internet and current day Wayne hate has become such that nikkas will literally say anything, we're bout 2 years removed dudes saying Lil Chuckee wrote No Ceilings...but wrote for tracks for Baby that ended up never coming out...he got released in like '08, started his mixtape grind and developed his current following over the years...stylistically, the Starlito we're hearing today isn't the Allstar from back when he was signed to CMR..but that's too much nuance...far as him sounding like wayne, dude is an admitted wayne stan that's been a fan since he was middle school and cites him as a major influence...the whole drug induced freestyle style he started doing in like '09 is definitely influenced by wayne...i think he put out his best work a couple of years ago, 2011ish...he's still dope now, just sounds too lean'ed out at times

far as drugs go, far as i can tell...lean and ecstasy (see: the mid-late aughts "super fruity swag" ATL movement that Dro fell victim to for a sec) seem to have the worst effect on rappers..but coke and weed bring the best out :pachaha: ...

lol @ the idea that lito is talented or skilled enough to influence wayne in any capacity

if anything lito been doing his best wayne impression for years
Him and Don Trip sound like some 2013 Wayne on Step Brothers. I dont think he wrote for wayne but def helped Birdman. I don't really think anyone ever wrote waynes shyt he just studiess people.
