I've had two ideas for threads and now that this place is purely dedicated to film geekery, this is the best time to do them and here's the first.

I listen to a lot of film podcasts but Battleship Pretension is definitely my favorite because they're very analytical about film and possibly sub consciously influenced my decision on my thesis for grad school: Film as political allegory and how that can make us better political communicators. Anyway, I listened to their episode discussing their personal favorite films of all time and then analyzing why those movies are their favorite and what those choices may say about them as people and it got me thinking and most of you all in here are very insightful about film so I ask: what do your favorite movies say about you?

For example, my top three fav flicks of all time, The Godfather, Casino Royale, and The Maltese Falcon, all deal with main characters who are conflicted internally and have a specific way of seeing the world and a moral code. I may not always agree with the code, but it does exist in Michael Corleone, James Bond, and Sam Spade. I'm drawn to characters who have some kind of internal thing going on, whether it's due to moral reasons or emotional reasons or logical reasons and aside from Michael, I'm drawn to heroes; guys who take on the world by themselves in order to get some sort of justice.

Figured it would be a great way to christen the new place and I'm definitely interested to here what you cats think

I'm probably a slightly sociopathic, ruthless tyc00n that's likes to steal other people's milkshakes :lupe:

Word? Interesting breh
Also I feel a like a lot of nikkas say some shyt is their favorite or a great movie because it's the hipster cool thing to do or feigned some intellectual understanding that the common man couldn't possibly grasp.

Perfect example of this is there will be blood and no country for old man :beli:

I fell asleep in both them shyt but listen to nikkas here they are masterpieces :yeshrug:

They're dope flicks but I agree with you that A LOT of nikkas just say prestige flicks so they can look good or look smart and impress every other cinephile they talk too. But if they're being genuine, normally your favorite movies just resonate with you for one reason or another, whether it be nostalgia, a theme you like or identify with, your favorite actor(s) favorite director, etc. One of the movies on my favorites list is Raiders of the Lost Ark and that's not a deep film at all but it's just a dope movie about a hero and it's fun. Not everything has to be a prestige piece with a litany of oscar winners on it or a movie from a sight and sound list
