Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
My area is going to have an Incorporation vote in order to become it's own city rather than being under the jurisdiction of the County government.

That got me thinking about what do we expect from our local government??

If I'm being honest...I'm fine with what we've got. The biggest benefit would be that we could possibly resolve issues quicker cause it's a smaller area...:jbhmm:

Them taxes gonna go up tho :francis:

I want an emphasis on public schools and parks and recreation facilities and programs as well as leniency for bars and nightlife.

For my home city of Oakland - subsidize building so regular apartments can be built, not just luxury

needs to be a state thing - but getting these sprawling homeless camps off streets, underpasses and parks so that people who live in these neighborhoods or want to use parks can use parks and sidewalks without fearing for their safety or coming across tons of biohazards and pests

Zoning laws are usually the big hurdle to new affordable housing developments

Not allowing foreign or corporate purchases of homes within city limits. Adjustable rent caps according to cost of living index. Business Subsidies will only be for residents who have lived in the area for 5-10 years. Any corporations that want to move in must comprise their work force of at least 80-90% of people in and around the area, they must also make investments to infrastructure and education... I’m sure there’s more. @OfTheCross solid thread idea

Nothing. I don't want a government at all. Yuck, I'm just sickened that there are really people that want a government doing anything at all for them. Anything you could ever dream of can be done better by yourself or through the free market. Excuse me good sirs, while I go to the bathroom and quickly vomith!

P.S.: Taxes? Imagine wanting to pay those. LOL. Taxes are theft. Why pay the government to do what the free market is already doing? You guys, man.

Yea, by subsidize I mean end to end - sell public lands for cheaper or offset the taxes and fees related to acquisition, expedite and remove zoning and permit fees, etc. the cost to build a unit is 400-500k in the bay, so off rip nothing makes sense except for building luxury, help developers lower that coast while holding them to building mid market housing

The county government does that here. They sell the land for $10 for affordable housing development.

Some people think it's controversial. But from what I've seen, the developers have actually come through.

Honestly, it's a pretty well run government we've got. Just wish it was more responsive to my area in particular.
