Rethugs and Dems in Jesus Freak states need to secure that Christian nutjob vote. America, regardless of the fact that it's supposed to be secular, has a huge Christian influence. If those voters feel like their representatives are Godless heathens, they will not vote for them. Portraying an anti-abortion stance or a pro-family stance (religion in schools, excessive censorship in music movie and tv, etc.) helps secure that vote.
Also, if less Americans are being born, then there are less Americans in the workforce. The work still needs to be done and if said work is done, it will be done by foreigners and immigrants. Then those foreigners and immigrants will have children and chances are, unlike the 1900's, they will not be white. They will be brown or some other color. And then they will have the same rights as other Americans. White Americans. That is very scary to the people in those states.
At the very least, the jobs that need to be done but can't be done (either because there are'nt people to do it or because there are'nt people willing to do it) will be outsourced, which is a whole other issue in of itself.

Less teen pregnancies means more resources to pursue further education, higher salaries/career advancement, job creation, and the ability to actually raise a child when it is fiscally responsible to do so.
