Now, that I think about it, it's closer than I think.

Metaphors and wordplay are great and skilled traits, especially for a rap battle or freestyle, but many rappers used forced punchlines where the meaning of the bar is either heavy handed or doesn't make much sense.

But songs like this are very impressive even if there isn't a whole bunch of double entendres.

Wit/Wordplay/Entendre-heavy rap takes much more brainpower than multis...imo. I mean like good wordplay and punches type shh!t, lol, not "I'm hot like light" type stuff

Depends on the song tbh I can’t call it 100%. But a song that has two of these kinds of verses op lazy ass made would be holy key. For that one I’m picking big Sean’s verse over kdot. I prefer wordplay though it’s more complex to me because it’s slick talk. Not saying you a cracker, but crackers usually prefer the former over the latter.

True. When rappers can really pull off metaphors and wordplay, it's more impressive than rhymes schemes.

But I find being able to rhyme with assonance or fitting complex vocabulary words into rhymes is still very impressive and takes a lot of skill.

Takes a mix of both to be great.. I typically lean more into metaphors but you don't even have to do that to be a great lyricist imo.. I take a Scarface as a great lyricist without metaphors..

shyt like

Now, as I open up my story, with the blaze of your blunts
And you can picture thoughts slowly, up on phrases I wrote
And I can walk you through the days that I done
I often wish that I could save everyone, but I'm a dreamer
Have you ever seen a nikka who was strong in the game
Overlookin' his tomorrows, and they finally came?

Is just beautiful without being metaphorical.. i appreciate rhyme schemes too but I don't necessarily equate them with being lyrical..
