Sorry if this was already talked about but I'm not seeing anybody in my algo bring up this obvious impact
According to this thread PG County recently got dethroned by Charles County MD as the wealthiest black county, so I guess you can throw Charles County in there too
I actually have two relatives, who were lifelong Fed workers, living in million dollar cribs in Charles County. The first in home theater I ever saw irl was an aunt in Charles County

Are black people in the DMV panicking or is the economy diversified enough where the impact can be minimized? Will cutting fed jobs lead to the de-gentrification of DC?

A huge portion of the county’s Black residents rely on federal jobs for stable incomes, benefits, and homeownership. If these jobs get slashed, it’s going to hit hard, leading to more unemployment, lower household incomes, and less money circulating in the community.

PG County has already been through economic struggles, like the foreclosure crisis that wiped out Black wealth. This could make things even worse, widening the racial wealth gap and devaluing property in the area. If people start losing their jobs, we’ll see reduced consumer spending, potential mortgage defaults, and even weaker public services due to lower tax revenue.

I think this is a wake-up call for us to push for more economic diversification and local investment. If we don’t prepare for these job losses, it could set Black wealth in PG County back in a major way.

I want my mom and aunt to get up out of there. Parts of PG are fukked up and this is gonna make it worse with so many government folks reliant on contractor work.

Some of the most talentless people imaginable are federal government “workers” living it up acting bougie as hell like everyone is beneath them in the DMV. But I think the federal government would have to severely trim fed jobs to have a real impact. It would have to be on par with General Motors and the auto industry pulling out of Detroit.

But I think some snobby ass federal workers deserve that rude awakening. I’m talking about people getting paid 250k+ a year to work from home and think their degree in Underwater Basketweaving in 1995 qualifies them for their opulent lifestyles. This country never lets people live too good for too long if they aren’t seriously busting they ass for it. Especially not black folks.

Smarter folks will be able to adapt and become entrepreneurs. Others might have to *gasp* get their manicured nails dirty and get it out the mud doing blue collar tradeswork like a lot of successful black folks in the Baltimore area.

Sounds like you’re looking forward to the possibility of over 200,000 black people losing their jobs… :mjpls:

Deep cuts is the plan. Elon laid off like 80% of Twitter and is using a similar mind set here. They offered buy out to the entire federal workforce

On the snobby part, you sound like you got resentment towards DMV blacks who have access to above avg jobs. I get what you talking about because some of them do act like they compete in the harder private sector but I mean you can only get so mad at ppl taking advantage of a regional advantage
