There are 16 regular season games. Ticket holders usually, but not always, buy stuff from the concession stands and fan shop.
What if people just stopped buying tickets and just watched the games from TV? It would almost be like the fan turnout at a regular season amateur softball league game. Hardly anyone in the stands. A couple girlfriends and wives.
How much would revenue drop? Ticket sales, club/box seats and catered food, concession stand sales, fan gear sales?
Would Roger Goodell lose his job even if television viewing numbers jumped?
All those people who live near the stadiums and sell parking spots on their property would be sad and furious. Those folks make a good chunk of side change. And for those who don't know, in some stadiums, the paid parking sites are expensive or full. People who have property near the stadium will open up their property so you can park there for a fee. These homes are as close as the stadium parking lots so the walking distance is the same. You charge $10 a car and you get 10 cars, that's $100 tax-free for doing nothing. Multiply that times 16 and you have $1,600 dollars in a four month time period. Not too shabby. You charge $15 and maybe can fit 15 cars, you get $225 tax-free. Multiple that times 16 and you get $3,600. That doesn't include pre-season and post-season games.
Anyway, what do you all think? Why not watch games from home or the sports bar? Most people do it already.
