What has caused Georgia to trend Dem? And are we seeing a permanent shift, or was 2020-21 a mirage?

I am interested in thoughts from people who live in Georgia or are knowledgeable about the situation. It is really interesting what happened in Georgia given the trends in the opposite direction in many other states (Florida, Ohio, etc.).

I was initially skeptical of drawing any meaning from the Presidential election. I thought maybe Trump was just uniquely repulsive to certain people. But the Dems winning runoffs for the Senate seats made me think twice.

Is it largely better organizing by people like Abrams? Lots of transplants in the Atlanta metro area? Something else?

And is this going to be like North Carolina going Dem in 2008 only to go back to being a state where Dems come kind of close but always lose?

Or will it be more like Virginia, where it keeps moving politically to the point where it is almost a reliable Dem state?

the black cat is my crown...
since this is higher learning, let me add my postulation..... :russ:

well, at least i'm admitting my opinion is pure speculation (being that i'm neither from georgia nor an expert on the area)....

i think georgia was a fluke that happened due to three things
  1. trump was uniquely repulsive
  2. many atlanta area transplants
  3. abrams extremely good organizing
why do i think this won't happen again.....? georgia passed many laws since then to suppress the black vote... biden only won georgia by 11k votes, it wouldn't take much suppression to overcome that small number.... plus biden's approval rating across the country, let alone in georgia, is in the toilet... biden ain't carrying no georgia again...

trump was just so bad and polarizing that he even alienated partisan republicans... i don't recall any president having people in their own party so against them... any other republican can carry georgia, and at this point, trump will more than likely carry it in 2024 as well...

But what about Warnock and Ossoff winning without Trump on the ballot?

trump did reverse voter suppression there.... :dead:

he was running so wild with the stolen election lie and telling people not to show up to vote because kemp and others wouldn't side with him that he flipped the state for democrats... shyt was kraaazy!

but again, since then, georgia has passed laws to suppress the black vote so i doubt that happens again... we'll find out in november when warnock is up for reelection if it was a fluke or not....

I think walker bests him because of the climate right now.
