Is it me or did the brother really lose a step ever since he made that Crash Talk album? I don't know if it's TDE not allowing him to release music or Mac Miller's passing but he doesn't even have as big of a presence on social media as he once did.

Then I heard him on this Freddie Gibbs feature and it was okay but not up to his usual standard

Anyone know what's been up? I know we all also wonder about Kendrick, Isaiah and Soul's new music releases but Q been out of it for a minute.

Blame TDE for thinking everyone is Kendrick and can disappear for years without losing attention/fanbase. I just don't understand why TDE has decided to starve their artists when a project isn't out. In 2011-2014, TDE dudes were everywhere doing features. Outside of that Gibbs track when is the last time Q did a noteworthy feature? Where is Ab Soul? Jay Rock had a big year, not long ago, and then completely disappeared too with no features. This just isn't good business. TDE lucked into getting a second superstar (SZA), something that hasn't happened to any label outside of Young Money...and they still aren't playing it right.

Crash Talk was terrible, and I thought it was super weird how Q kept shytting on Blankface during that promo process. In reality Blankface did better no matter what he tries to say (sales wise). I'm not sure where he's gonna go next though. He's gonna have to really up his hook game to make any impact next time.

That nikka really shytted on Blank Face because of how much it didn't sell. Then talked up Crash Talk and that ended up doing even worse. He needs to stay true to his artistry and stop chasing the mainstream love Oxymoron got and the attention Kendrick gets

Kendrick got to where he was by being true to himself, his art and letting everything fall into place. You can tell Q was forcing when he made Crash Talk. It wasn't the worst album ever. There's a few good cuts on there but that project just wasn't him

He just needs to find his footing artistically. He needs to embrace who he is as an artist and person, embrace how far he's come, and how much his life has evolved holistically. If he's depressed, rap about that shyt. Golfing? Rap about it. He can't hold back his feelings, second guess his art and force hits to please the masses. That never works

Edit: Maybe Mac's death has something to do with his transitioning but who knows at this point

I never blame labels for everything, but TDE has a lot of business issues that are killing the careers of their roster.

They sit on whole projects forever, and basically refuse to release them. DJ Dahi said he's done a lot of production for projects on the label that he says will probably never see the light of day. Kendrick doesn't need any push because his name alone sells itself. SZA has built a nice following, but even she had to fight to get her music out. The other artists always seem to be in limbo. Recording and recording, but not able to get a budget to actually release much. That's a money and business issue that Top is going to have to figure out. You can't ask for loyalty and not take care of your people. Definitely looks like this isn't going to end well.

One prop I will give them is that everyone is straight. They aren’t starving artists. Even Ab is living very comfortably.

Quality Control is clearly the best indie label in rap music right now.
